This week the letter of the week was Rr-/rat/-r and the words of the week were here and red. The theme was seeds and planting.
In Language the class learned to print our new letter and words, and got to think of many words that begin with Rr. The class learned the difference between books that are fiction or non-fiction. Can your child help remember which is which? For journals, everyone wrote about something they had learned about seeds or plants.
In Math the students learned to use a numberline to help with subtraction. It can still be tricky for some students to recognize when they are working with a "-" sign instead of a "+" sign, so always remind them to look carefully! We also practiced counting backward using a rocket that could blast off! In the computer lab, we played a game called Moby Math, which allows each student to move at his/her own pace through different online math activities, allowing for extra practice targeting their most needed math skills.
In Science and Social Studies, we explored all about seeds and plants. The class made a plant diagram to show and label the different parts. We also learned how seeds use different methods to travel around. The class even got to see what is on the inside of a seed.
Next week the letter of the week will be Vv-van-/v/, and the words will be his and will. The theme will continue to be seeds and planting.
