April 15-19

This week the letter of the week was Vv-van-/v/ and the words of the week were his and will. The theme was vegetables and healthy food.

In Language the class learned to print our new letter and words, and got to think of many words that begin with Vv. We were still distinguishing between fiction vs. non-fiction books. Can your child help remember which is which? For journals, everyone got to create and write about their healthy plate of food.

In Math we focused on numbers that make partners of 10. (i.e. 9 & 1, 8 & 2, etc.) When given a number, children have been trying to quickly identify how many more would be needed to make 10. In the computer lab, we got to play Moby Math again.

In Science and Social Studies, we talked about heathy foods. We also learned that when we're eating healthy we need to eat food from all parts of the food pyramid. We did a taste test  to see which different types of vegetables they liked. Since Earth Day is coming up, the class also talked about recycling and what else we can do to keep our world clean. We finished off the week by planting our own flower seeds! It will be exciting to watch as our seeds grow a little more each day we come to school!

Since Vv was the letter of the week, we had to talk about volcanoes! We learned about the different types and parts of a volcano. Online, we got to build our own virtual volcanoes and watched how their eruptions could be different.

Next week the letter of the week will be Zz-zebra-/z/, and the word of the week will be did. The theme will be zoo.

Remember, spring school pictures will be taken on Wednesday, April 24, for the families who are choosing to participate.

Can your child remember the names of these vegetables?
