January 28 - February 1

This week the letter of the week was Dd-dog-/d/. The words of the week were and and do. We talked about words that begin with the new letter and learned to print our new letter and words. The theme was dinosaurs.

In Language we learned a new word family. Can your child remember some of the words that rhyme with -et? We also practiced putting letters in ABC order. The children were able to become authors and write their own dinosaur story. See if your child can read the story for you from his/her January journal. 

In Math we continued to learn about addition and found out that ANY type of counter can help add two numbers. The class used pennies, dinosaurs, bears, and cubes to practice adding, but any small object would work. Also, we used dominoes to use our addition skills while playing a partner game. We ended the week by playing a special Dice Roll game where we needed to add two dice together to race our partner for rolling all the numbers 1-12. In Science the Kindergartners really enjoyed learning about all different types of dinosaurs. The Kindergartners even had the opportunity to create a whole new breed: a Dot-a-saurus! They took turns rolling dice, counting the dots, and using the dabbers to give their dinosaur it's dots. The Dot-a-Sauruses are a great decoration for our classroom!

Next week the letter of the week will be Xx-fox-/ks/ and the words of the week will be of and love. The theme will be Valentine's. Watch for notes to come home in your child's folder next week about our 100th Day and Valentine's Day celebrations.
