September 24-28

The theme this week was "Me and My Family."

In Language we introduced the letter of the week was Mm-man-/m/. Your Kindergartner learned to print the letter, what sound it makes, and brainstormed Mm words to put in our ABC Dictionaries. Many of our songs and stories were relating to our letter and it's sound. Each week there will be a new letter to focus on with these activities. The words of the week were me, my, mom and dad. The students practiced spelling, printing and reading these words. We are also working on becoming better readers by reading to ourselves. Can you Kindergartner remember the three ways to read a book?

In Math we reviewed printing and counting numbers 1-5. Thank you for your support from home with practicing this skill. The Kindergartners also used various manipulatives to create 3-part patterns. They used this skill to create a name frame pattern project. See what types of patterns your child can make for you at home. We also used M&M's to practice counting and printing our numbers.  Photos below.

In Science and Social Studies we learned about members in the family. The Kindergartners also learned about how things move and got to experiment with magnets. Can your child remember what types of objects could attract to the magnet?

This was our first week with our "Kindergarten Weekly Homework" sheet. Thank you for taking the time to complete these tasks with your child each night, it will really help him/her retain our new skills throughout the year. After the weekend, your child can turn the completed sheet in to me for a sticker. Please make sure his/her name is always written on the page before it is handed in. Working through our homework page is a GREAT way to reinforce our academics with your Kindergartner from home, and also helps you to recognize how your child is progressing with the skills that we are covering at school.

We were also excited to welcome a new student into our class this week. We now have 10 girls and 9 boys in our Kindergarten class.

Next week the theme will be apples. The letter of the week will be Aa-apple-/a/, and the word of the week will be look.
