This week the letter of the week was Xx-fox-/ks/. The words of the week were of and love. We talked about words that used the letter Xx and learned to print our new letter and words. The theme was Valentine's Day.
In Language we played BINGO with letter sounds. The class also talked about how to break a word apart into syllables. We practiced with four of our word families by matching pretend candies into their correct word family candy box. In journals, the students enjoyed writing about what they would buy if they had $100.
In Math we talked about symmetry as we were cutting out heart decorations for our Valentine's mailboxes. The class also did a graphing activity for Valentine's day.
In Science and Social Studies, the students learned about the history of Valentine's Day and why it is common for people to give cards and flowers on this day. Can your child remember share the story with you? Since February is dental health month, we also learned a lot about our teeth and how we can keep them healthy.
Next week the letter of the week will be Qq-queen-/qu/ and the words of the week will in and they. The theme will be Valentine's. Remember to have your child bring his/her valentines to school by Thursday for our Valentine's Day celebration. There is no school on Friday, February 15.
