February 18-22

This week the letter of the week was Ll-lamp-/l/. The word of the week was like and the theme was pets.

In Language we talked about words starting with Ll and learned to print our new letter and word. The class also read many stories about different types of pets, and were able to us a venn diagram to compare which times of animals can or cannot be pets. For journals, the children were given a "surprise" pet to write a story about. It was fun to see how their pet turned out!

In Math we continued to practice with addition, and introduced how to add using a number line. We have now learned how to add using ten frames, number bonds and manipulatives. The children were also introduced to the term "less than," and practiced thinking of what would be less than a given number. Also, we introduced clocks this week. We were practicing telling time to the hour and matching the time on digital and analog clocks. See if your child can help read the clocks at your house.

In Science and Social Studies, the students learned the difference between living and non-living things. We created a book to help us classify these items. Can your kindergartner remember the 3 things that are required for something to live? (grow, breathe, eat/drink) We also celebrated President's Day and learned about what makes that holiday special.

Next week the letter of the week will be Uu-up-/u/ and the word of the week will be has. Our theme will be under the sea. Please remember that we have a field trip on Tuesday and Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday.
