This week the letter of the week was Pp-pan-/p/. The words of the week were play, purple and pink, and our theme was penguins and pigs.
In Language we practiced printing our new letter and words. We also introduced the -it word family. Can your child help you think of other words that would rhyme with -it? The class made a book called "The Pig's Pan," where each child had to think of a food that started with Pp to add to their page of the book.
In Math we started working with number bonds to help us learn addition. Many of the kids are getting very comfortable combining two sets of manipulatives to find a total (i.e. 5+2=7), and are able to represent it in a number bond. We also worked on an assessment to see who can print their numbers from 1-20. The Kindergartners also played a game to compare fractions with equal or unequal parts.
In Science we learned about four different types of penguins and made a book of facts with them. We were also able to write in our journals about what we would do if we were penguins. Many of the children are starting comfortably write sentences using similar patterns.
