January 21-24

This week the letter of the week was Ee-Ed-/e/. The word of the week was be, and the theme was still transportation and things that GO!

In Language we reviewed our four word families: -an, -at, it, and ig. The students had fun racing to think of words in each family. This week the Kindergartners also learned to print their last names and type them on the computer. As you practice this skill at home, try to see if your child can remember all the letters without help.

In Math we did an activity with elephants to practice estimating vs. finding an exact number. The children also reviewed/practiced their phone numbers by creating phone books with their classmates. This activity was a helpful way to get extra practice with this skill, and also allows classmates to connect outside of school for birthday parties and play dates. Prior to exchanging phone numbers, the class discussed the proper use of telephones and emphasized that they are only to be used with parent permission!

In Science and Social Studies we continued to learn about different types of transportation and classified vehicles according to how many wheels they have. The children also got to choose their favorite vehicle, and write a story about where they would like to travel in it.

Next week the letter of the week will be Dd-dog-/d/ and the words of the week will be and and do. The theme will be dinosaurs. Look for your child's report card to be coming home in his/her folder on Tuesday, January 29.
